Coming soon.

I heard some news today that has deeply disturbed me. In the grand tradition of Hollywood needing to beat every horse until long after it's good and dead, there is now talk of a remake of The Neverending Story. I think this is a travesty. But while most of the reactions I've seen have been varying degrees of outrage at the certain desecration of a treasured childhood classic, my own wrath stems from this simple fact: The Neverending Story is the worst movie ever made, and its awfulness should not be inflicted on the world yet again.

I mean, honestly.

  1. So random. I love your blog header. Did you make it yourself or is it from a website? Do tell.

  2. okay, so i'm really glad i'm not the only one who thinks that movie sucks. I also don't like labrynth (gasp!). p.s. i want you to come back here. I desperately want to photograph you again.

  3. I'll tell ya what's a travesty: Ben Folds dropping the Five. What was that all about anyway?

  4. Still bitter you couldn't bag Atreyu? But honestly, I've had a hard time forgiving myself for subjecting you kids to that movie. One of the creepiest ever.

  6. I don't remember much about it, but I know I liked it. My parents also had me watch Unico and Return to Oz--both scary as ever--so now I'm curious if any of my nightmares come from The Neverending Story.

  7. After thinking about it, I guess it just proves that the movie is living up to its name, right? And I'm really disappointed that you weren't able to work a picture of Beaker in, to really freak out Sarah.

And Dad, we really loved it when we were little. I did, at least. But just thinking about it now gives me the willies.

  8. oh geez. I just kind of threw up inside my mouth. I thought I was the only one completely grossed out by this? I think the first time around I thought it was interesting, but then it just made me feel funny. Like in the way you should tell your parents or doctor. Like...just gross. Atreyu. Those stupid sphinx things. The empresses's uber-glossy lips. The worst music ever. A man of rocks? I'm having PTSD all over again. I'm totally going to picket.

  9. Wow. There seems to be a lot of latent anger against said "The Neverending Story". I loved it. Still do. I bought it for $5 at Wal-Mart (which even included the underperformer NS 2). Labyrinth, also a masterpiece. I guess not everyone can appreciate how those movies plumb the depths of human emotion and imagination within the limits of 80s special effects (or lack thereof). Who didn't dream of becoming the protagonist in the books they read? Alas, if everyone appreciated the masterpieces and shunned cultural detritus, Stephenie Meyer would be a nobody and I'd lose a lot of fun railing against the man.

  10. When Jordan and I were dating, he found out I had never seen Neverending Story and tried to trick me by saying it was a really sweet movie and we should watch it. So we did, and I had to pretend I liked it because you know at that point I was still trying to show an interest in things he liked. It kept getting stranger and stranger and then I finally fell asleep, and he started laughing at me. I'm glad it ended there, and he didn't try to go for NE Story II...which I hear is worse, if it's possible.
